Keep Calm and Feel Better

Countless reasons can put your emotions down and make your day the worst ever. Anger, anxiety, stress and depression are enough to frustrate you and make you burst like a volcano sometimes.

While it might seem impossible to control unexpected or difficult situations --- such as dealing with bills, traffic, work demands and family responsibilities --- it is not the case. You can teach yourself to cope with the anxieties and stress, and keep yourself calm and feel better.

Learn to focus on the positive aspect in every situation. Try these techniques to get over negative issues and cope with upsetting circumstances.

Healthy Eating

Consider food like asparagus, avocados, berries, oranges and walnuts in your diet. They combat stress and help you to relax.
If you are upset, you turn to comfort food --- junk foods, coffee, chocolates and cakes --- to make you feel better. These kinds of food temporarily satisfy your cravings and give you that “sugar rush” but they are necessarily good for your mind and body. Always remember that healthier food options are much better in balancing your emotions and giving you sustaining energy to overcome difficult situations.

Avoid too much caffeine, alcohol and nicotine. They raise body’s heart rate and blood pressure, which makes you feel uneasy and difficult to keep calm.

Physical Activity

  • Exercise releases endorphins --- the “happy hormone”. Endorphins trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine but safe and natural. The hormone improves your mood and lessens muscle tension especially after a strenuous activity.
  • Meditation or Yoga can change your temperament and outlook of the situation. Learn meditation techniques for inner peace and wellness. Simply close your eyes and focus on your own thoughts. Believe that you are in control of your mind and emotions. As you meditate, let go of your stress and anxieties. This will calm your mind, help you think clearly, and ultimately feel better.
  • Engage in any sports you like. Playing sports is definitely fun exercise.
  • Other stress-reducing activities --- photography, dancing, and even chatting with a friend --- are also recommended to distract yourself from life’s stressors.
